Consider yourself lucky if not in pain. My chronic pain for five years led me to do MACI/TTO. I’d tried all conservative treatments and even surgery prior. This is helping, though, thankfully! Do you have a really great PT? I had to go private pay to get one that actually knows what she is talking about and has helped me in conjunction with my surgeon. There is hope. Keep working on it and advocating for yourself.

Might be a good candidate for MACI surgery if it is causing you pain in day to day activities. You could ask your ortho.

hi i have had grade 3 in one and grade 2 in another knee ans same age as you..my pain was healed with good consistent pt and then i later joined gym to strengthen my thigh muscles and stuff! That has made a lot of difference for me! I am not a fit person. so it still does pain every now and then if I push myself a bit. but it has improved for me. It took almost an year for me. let me know if any other questions

Be thankful it’s lateral and not medial. I’m 5 weeks into microfracture surgery with autocart on medial femoral condyle and I should be partial weight bearing by the end of next week despite my knee currently at 83 degrees. It’s not fun! At least lateral is not the weight bearing part of the knee. Silver lining.

With this condition PT helps for the time being i dealt with these symptoms in my early 20s and yea I felt pain walking up stairs but just dealt with it.In my late 40s I ended up tearing my meniscus on the medial and lateral side of my right knee due to degenerative changes within my knee.Eventually I had my left knee replaced as I had grade IV chondro. So yea get a 2nd opinion and go from there. Good luck.

From what I see, everyone with this type of injury ends up with a knee replacement; I have an appointment with my orthopedist in June.
Hey, happy to hear you're better now! I'm dealing with knee pain as well and sitting for a long time at work is really painful... Did you experience the same ?

Our average knee PRP patient reports 5% improvement at 1 month, 30% at 2 months, 60% at 3 months, and 80% at 4 months. Not sure if this fits your timeline. Either way glad the combination of PRO and Exercises did the trick.
I had prp done on my meniscus. Hurt like hell. Felt like my knee was going to explode. Knee was swollen for 2 weeks . Very tender after. My used to click during every step. Doesn’t anymore. Would be nice if it lasted longer

For me it didn’t kick in for a month. Then I had great relief and improved ROM for about six months.

Have you tried a muscle stimulator? I recommend the brand complex, they make a great product, sometimes can be put through insurance with a physio/chiro note for a portion of it. Its allowed me to build up strength he might VMO and get certain muscles firing that were dormant after my surgery
In september I tore my MPFL. My knee buckled and I heard a pop and couldn’t walk on it, went to the emergency room and I got an X-ray but they informed me they saved MRI’s for immediate head injuries. If your local Urgent care / ER will give you an immediate MRI I would suggest going there for same day treatment. If you have any old pairs of crutches I strongly suggest walking on those for the time being. Call your ortho department today and request an evaluation as soon as possible and explain that you have a suspected ACL tear. You will be triaged as urgent and seen within the week.

Check to see if there are walk-in Ortho offices in your area. That would be your best bet! Urgent care can usually only do X-rays, whereas the ER has the capability to do more in depth imaging. A regular Ortho office may only see you if you have a referral from your PCP. It just depends on what resources you have in your area. Good luck to you, I hope wherever you go, they can get you feeling better! I have both of my knees replaced, so I'm very familiar with how painful they can be.

Hearing a pop during a side impact in rugby is something doctors take seriously because that mechanism can involve ligaments like the ACL or MCL. The fact that you still have some movement and can lightly bear weight is encouraging, but it doesn’t always rule out a ligament injury.
Most people in that situation start with urgent care or a primary doctor just to check for fractures and swelling, and then they usually get referred to an orthopedic specialist if a ligament injury is suspected. An MRI is what typically confirms whether it’s a partial tear, sprain, or something involving the meniscus.
In the meantime, rest, ice, compression, and keeping weight light on the knee usually helps prevent further irritation until you’re evaluated.
Right now does the knee feel unstable or like it might give way when you try to turn or pivot, or is it mostly soreness and swelling?
If she has osteoarthritis, her options are fairly limited. Typically a joint replacement will make worlds of difference (I have an artificial knee). There are newer forms of treatment, like microfracture procedures and PRP/stem cell treatments, but those seem to be more recommended in the early stages of cartilage degeneration.
Otherwise, maintaining a healthy weight will reduce joint stress.
