u/Certain-ResolveHopefully he takes as long as he needs. This same injury happened to kelenna azubuike on the same exact kind of play and he was never the same after.201
u/Mundane-Structure148damn. so we may not see moody until 202892
u/noodlebballWho are these 13 players that have suffered this injury?39
u/picks_and_rollsQuestion for OP. Do you have thoughts about why, with more advanced equipment (including sneakers), training regimens, knowledge about ideal recovery times between workouts, advances in sports medicine, training staff, therapists etc…why are we seeing more injuries than in decades past?23
u/megaminor23As someone who personally suffered a torn patella tendon while playing, albeit non-professional and as a weekend warrior, the recovery process is a long and grueling one. Seeing this happen brought back some PTSD especially seeing that noticeable gap where the kneecap should be. In comparison to an ACL reconstruction, the goal is to get mobility and bending quickly, a torn patella tendon limits the range of motion on the knee and the goal during the rehab process is to slow regain full degree of bending. Part of the rehab process is regaining muscle mass in the quad as the entire leg is immobilized for a long period of time. In my case my leg was immobile and in a hinge brace for 2 months and I wasn't allowed to take it off until I got to 90° bend in the knee. Overall, it took me 2 months to walk uncomfortably without the crutches and extensive rehab around 6-8 months just to regain strength to handle everyday movement. 6 years later my quad is still significantly smaller than my non-surgically repaired knee but have been able to play basketball and other sports relatively pain free. Mentally its a tough climb up just being able to trust your body to move the way you used to. As a freak accident its hard to just get back to wanting to play again, let alone walking with basically what will be a brand new knee. Hoping for a successful recovery for Moody as he's been a bright spot this season and will hopefully bounce back to be a solid contributor to the future of this team in whatever way possible.18
u/TeknoStormHey OP! Thanks for posting this. I had a ruptured patellar tendon on both knees (separate times - 1.5 years apart). Right as I saw it, I guessed it was the patellar tendon. Feels like some one hitting your knee as you jump up.9
u/bouncyboatloadwhy does this tendon tear? is it due to weakness in surrounding muscles? or over stressed over time? basically my question is is it a gradual stress that cause eventual catastrophic failure, or is it just a random event that can happen to anyone?8
u/Longjumping-Branch36NRL player Connor Watson ruptured his patella tendon in 2023. Worked his way back to a full recovery back to first grade including playing state of origin for NSW last year, which for non-Australian who don’t know rugby league is essentially among the highest of rep honours7
u/aahdinWith how his knee looked what would you say the odds are on dislocation vs patellar tear?7
u/EngineDisastrous672How long did those 10 players generally take to return to play?6
u/Hop830I missed the game but saw the screenshot of the knee when he was down. That looked really bad. I hope Moses reaches out to Shaun Livingston for some advice. His career was best case scenario for this type of injury.5
u/RedditSuxCoxAgainGoddamn.3
u/YoItsThatOneDudeOuch, thats fuckin brutal, best of luck to him3
u/chrisz2012There are too many games to be played with NBA cup games and 82 regular season games. National Team games for US, Europe, or LATAM in the summer. The NBA 100% needs to stop having its players play close to 100 games a season. The schedule of back to backs is grueling and it clearly shows with all the constant injuries league wide3
u/pancyfantzDamn.. so this is super rare? Sheesh. Fuckin hell. Goddamn… guess Moody and Butler can talk IQ for a while. Fuckin hell.3
u/LebasketBallIs it possible there was a wet spot that he slipped on?3
u/Empty-Dragonfruit194Will he get treated back in the bay?2
u/giantPotatoKing9Thanks for the post and could you share whether medical technology has been advanced in last 5 years to handle this? It seems that most of those the 13 players had that unfortunate injury 5 years ago?1
u/kennyslikMore of a personal question, but how do we prevent these kinds of injuries? Seeing these non-contact injuries like this out of the blue makes me paranoid it could happen to me on the court too1
u/wdsoul96I have no doubt that he'll come back stronger and better player. He's a smart/celebral kind of player. While his play demand (only some) physicality (only really in defense, he needs to act as a sticky hands-up wall barrier), it's not as much as most of the 13 others (same type of injury). He had been trying to assert himself and try to play dominant/intimidate ball. His physique and play style doesn't need to. The only thing I worry about is coming back and playing scared/avoidant. I don't think that'll happen. I think he'll prob follow Steph's trajectory. Where he'll train/play smarter and become even more physical. Warriors got one of the best infrastructure in NBA.1
u/imaaaginarymuffinI can’t shake sadness for Moses on this. He was looking so prime after all those games out. What a damn shame for him and the whole gang.1
u/Due_Cod_7018Damn.1
u/[deleted]lol shit. Gat damn, shit looked ruff-1
u/PhillipMcKrakCall me a negative Nancy. This injury is likely a career changer, if not a career ender. Shouldn’t expect much meaningful contribution from Moody from this point onwards.-1
u/Useful_Coyote_5796His career will never be the same.-4
u/mithrilmambaLooks like Moody won’t get to play with LeBron lol-9
